Josie em's QA
|1||a Have you got Epilepsy?|
|2||When were you first diagnosed?|
|When I was 17. (I'll be 23 in Feb.)|
|3||What type of Epilepsy do you / they have?|
|Partials. Mostly complex partials, but my seizure patterns have started changing over the last couple of years. What began as strictly CPs has evolved into both complex and simple partials. CPs are triggered by stress or sudden bursts of adrenaline (usually being startled by something). SPs are triggered by lack of sleep. I don't know what part of the brain they occur in, my doctors haven't been able to determine that. An MRI showed a deformed right temp. lobe, but I don't know if that really means much.|
|4||a What medication do you currently take?|
|Zonegran (200 mg am, 100 mg pm--may be decreased later) and Keppra (250 mg am, 250 mg pm--probably will be increased slowly over the months).|
|4||bWhat other medication have you taken in the past to control your Epilepsy?|
|Tegretol XR. I took as little as 400 mg a day, and as much as 800 mg a day, but not only did it not work, but it made me really loopy. I was sluggish/drowsy, and had slurred speech.|
Any other info you want to share?
I sometimes use alternative methods to control seizings, like herbs or aromatherapy. Mostly I use relaxation techniques, and deep breathing techniques.
I would like to learn more about VNS therapy.
